National Park closes trails for jaguar monitoring

The management of Iguaçu National Park announced that, until the 22nd, it will apply restrictions on visitor circulation in certain areas of the conservation unit. According to the statement, the temporary closure of specific trails aims to support research and conservation activities. However, there will be no impact on access to areas such as the Cataratas Trail, viewpoints, and walkways. “At the Cataratas area in Foz do Iguaçu, the Canafístula Trail will remain temporarily closed, while a section of the Poço Preto Trail will have partial restrictions, without affecting the visitor experience,” the statement says. Additionally, according to park management, in São Miguel do Iguaçu, restrictions will apply to the Silva Jardim area for monitoring activities. These actions are part of population monitoring strategies for large felines, such as the jaguar (Panthera onca) and the ocelot (Leopardus pardalis). The work will be carried out by the Onças do Iguaçu Project in partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio). Tourist visits to the Cataratas Trail and other trails will continue to operate normally during regular visiting hours.
